Counselor - Faculty and Staff - Human Resource Office

Counselor - Faculty and Staff

 

Summary of Responsibilities

The role of the counselor is to assess each client whether contact was made through self-referral or mandatory referral via the Human Resource Department; in the case of the latter, the HR Department requires the submission of a recommended plan for providing the assistance needed to the identified employee and the submission of mid and end of month reports.  The counselor is allowed to operate under the Codes and Regulations governing the profession regarding confidentiality in providing reports to the HR Department.  For all employees seeking assistance, a treatment plan is developed in collaboration with the employee followed by implementation. 

The counselor would also be able to assist the HR Department in training of managers/supervisors in coaching, mentoring and managing employees for whom they are responsible.

 

Duties includes but not limited to:

 

  1. Provide services on a weekly basis using the following schedule - 3 days in Belmopan, 1 day in Central Farm, 2 days in Belize City and 1 day in Toledo on an alternating basis.  This schedule would be flexible and based, in part, on the demand for services and emergencies that may arise at any of the four Campus Sites and for other related institutional support, as this may be needed.   
  2. Provide counseling/therapy support in Individual, family and group counseling/therapy as needed by faculty, staff and their immediate dependents and/or significant other, which negatively impacts their job performance.
  3. Provide counseling/therapy in the various modalities to address psychological issues brought by faculty, staff, and/or dependents and/or their significant other that negatively impact their job performance.
  4. Liaise with and/or make referrals to other health-related professionals, as needed, to support faculty and staff, using the other supports provided under the General Major Medical Plan offered through the Human Resource Department.
  5. Provide sanitized reports on employees mandated by HR.
  6. Responsible for the coordination and execution of training for staff development (internal and external);
  7. Organize and offer seminars/workshops and other capacity-building sessions for administrators, faculty and staff as these are requested.  These will be aimed at building the capacity of faculty to support the day-to-day needs of students; to assist in boosting the morale of faculty and staff and to assist in improving the overall climate of the institution.
  8. Maintain case files in accordance with legal, ethical and professional standards.
  9. Provide professional support to partners, on behalf of the University to the extent that this can be accommodated.
  10. Provision of monthly reports (numerical classified by general service areas).
  11. Any other related duties as assigned from time to time by the Human Resource Director.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology;
  • Certification as a practitioner;
  • 3-5 years professional experience;
  • Experience in Child, Adolescent and family Counseling;
  • Crisis management and conflict resolution experience.

Director of Central Farm Agriculture

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director has the overall leadership and responsibility for the efficient and effective management of the UB’s Central Farm, one that is dedicated to the training of graduates in the area of Food and Agriculture, providing other practical/technical/professional training in the area and to the pursuit of applied research and development and to outreach to support Belize’s Agricultural Development.

The Director is the Chair of the Agriculture Department of the UB and will lead the development and execution of Food and Agricultural programs at the Certificate, Associate Degree, Bachelor and Post-graduate levels so as to advance the cause of HR development for the Agricultural Sector. The Director will ensure that the UB’s Central Farm is maintained and operated as a living laboratory for the training of students in a practical, communal and entrepreneurial setting. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Through consultations with both external and internal stakeholders, develop/modify as needed, Certificate, Associate, Bachelor and graduate level programs in Applied Agriculture and associated areas with topics relevant to the needs of Belize and its changing environment, especially in technology usage, agribusiness, marketing, entrepreneurship, value addition, post-harvest technology and food technology, climate change, land use patterns including soil and water, biotechnology, food security, etc.
  2. The Director will also encourage and promote applied research in all the areas mentioned above at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.
  3. Treat with the efficient delivery of UB’s Agriculture programs through assignment of teaching and other duties, timetables and class schedules, student advising, internships, theses, examination and other reporting matters.
  4. Monitor and evaluate Faculty as required by the regulations.
  5. Mobilize resources for faculty development and training.
  6. Enhance communication between faculty and staff through regular meetings of faculty and technicians/staff so as to deal with production, student matters and the coordination of work and training programs, and to have monthly formal staff meetings.
  7. Monitor and evaluate course delivery with emphasis on quality and relevance; work with the Quality Assurance (QA) Unit of UB to continuously improve graduates and their relevance.
  8. Further develop and edit appropriate curriculum materials (workbooks) in support of effective course delivery.
  9. Coordinate course work with farm and industry workplaces, as well as production, research and development activities on the farm.
  10. Market the Agriculture programs and the “UB” brand by hosting visits from schools at both the primary and secondary levels, a comprehensive display at the Worlds Food Day Fair, UB Open Days and National Agriculture Trade Show (NATS) for example, and direct links with the farming communities.  The marketing of UB’s programs throughout the region especially the Caribbean will also be expected.
  11.  Working with the manager, UBCF, the President, Vice President and the Directors of UB, ensure that the UBCF is well and efficiently managed – finances, human resources, infrastructure, production centers, marketing etc.
  12. Teaching, Research and outreach as may be necessary.
  13. Collaborate, seek funding and build partnerships with local and foreign based organizations and bodies for the continued development of the farm.  The physical infrastructure including student/staff residences, offices, teaching and laboratory spaces, for teaching, training and outreach efforts and for Research.
  14.  Develop and implement Climate Smart Agriculture practices (productivity adaptation and mitigation). 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

  • Undergraduate and post graduate training in Agriculture or related area with relevant academic achievements and administrative experience.  A Ph.D. in Agriculture in any of its key sub-disciplines, would be a distinct asset. 
  • At least 10 years working experience in teaching, research and/or extension, and administrative.
  • Research, Development and Outreach experiences in the general areas of Food and Agriculture with supporting publications.
  • Educational leadership, management training and experience will be an asset.
  • Experience in teaching at the tertiary level in areas such as crop and animal production, soil and water science/engineering, farm mechanization, marketing, food processing, agri-business and value chain development, rural development.
  • Curriculum development, project planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, are additional skills which are very desirable.

 SALARY

Driver/Dispatcher

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Log all trips in vehicle log book (to be handed in weekly for checking and signing by Supervisor)
  2.  Keeps vehicles maintenance record book (to be handed in weekly for checking and signing by Supervisor)
  3.  Performs daily mechanical checks.  Also conducts minor servicing of vehicles as needed.
  4.  Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in scheduling maintenance and servicing/repairs of all vehicles at an authorized garage in accordance with the current University policies.
  5.  Cleans vehicle regularly (at least 3 times per week).
  6.  Carries out all functions normally assigned to the dispatcher including handling of mail and freight, office purchasing, pick-ups and deliveries and any other related tasks.
  7.  Informs the Maintenance Supervisor when vehicles need to be licensed and insured.
  8.  Reports any vehicular problems/issues that may occur to the supervisor.
  9.  Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

  • A least 1- 2 years related work experience

Farm Manager

FARM MANAGER

Duty Station:             Central Farm

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Central Farm (Agriculture), the Farm Manager has the responsibility for planning, coordinating and directing the daily operations of Central Farm, which is the teaching, research and outreach Campus of the UB dedicated to Food and Agriculture, but managed and operationalized as a commercial, “for profit” farm.  The Farm Manager will therefore be responsible for the management of the livestock and crop production and other units, for the good maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure of the farm including student residences and other buildings, roadways/walkways, utilities like water, electricity, farm machinery, security etc.  The work involved will include the Supervision of a group of skilled and unskilled workers, and working with the Director, engage in general Administrative matters such as planned production and marketing, purchasing, personnel, inventory control and accounting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but is not limited to the following;)

  1. Co-ordinates with the Director and Lecturers in areas such as crop and livestock production, processing and marketing and develop work plans and programmes for such production including student training needs and research/outreach activities of the Farm, all related to crop and livestock production.  The Farm Manager will for example:

               i.      Determine land use, crop rotation, livestock production and schedules etc.

               ii.      Ensure the farm infrastructure is well maintained and secure - engaging the University’s Director of Facilities, Security and ICT in such matters – lawns, grounds, building, equipment etc.

         2. The Farm Manager is also expected to develop a work plan with associated budget for the Farm so as to facilitate the execution of the following:

               i.     Working with the Director, develop and manage the Farm to provide practical and relevant experience to students in areas of animal and crop production, soil and water                                            engineering, mechanization, food processing, agri-business, marketing, micro propagated plants, aqua-culture etc. and to do so utilizing a model which generates net income.

               ii.     Promote and market the “UB” and “Farm Fresh” brands, and other outputs of the UBCF.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

  • An Associate/First Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agribusiness. Management, or any other related area. Relevant post graduate training will be an asset. Demonstrated farm management experience is an essential requirement for this position in the management of people, finances and other resources

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Technology related field;
  • LMS experience, at least three (3) years of experience with training/learning environments.

The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) is a department of the University of Belize with a mission to continuously build national scientific capacity for the effective management, sustainable use and conservation of Belize’s natural resources.  The ERI announces a vacancy for the post of Marine Biologist.

 Position: Marine Biologist

 Summary of Responsibilities/Oversight: Under the direction of the Science Director (Marine) is responsible for data collection under the marine research and monitoring programs, entry and analysis of field data, preparation of reports, liaising with and providing alternate representation on behalf of Science Director (Marine) for national monitoring groups and committees focused on marine resources conservation and management and assisting in the implementation and evaluation of the marine programs of the ERI.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • B.Sc. Natural Resource Management or Marine Sciences
  • Three years of field experience in marine related research or monitoring
  • SCUBA Certified to Rescue Diver, certification as an AAUS scientific diver is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with GIS software and mapping would be an asset
  • Demonstrated field skills including field surveys, coral and fish identification, GPS navigation, CPR, emergency oxygen and first aid safety.
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency in data processing and statistical software.
  • Excellent writing skills in English and demonstrated use of communication and information technology (e-mails, internet, etc.) and computer applications, including MS Word, Power Point, and Excel.

 Working Conditions/Physical Effort:

  • Work requires significant physical exertion or strain and many hours in the field and exposed to the elements.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.

 Duty Station:

  • This position is based at the ERI main office in Belmopan but with significant field time at the CCFS in Turneffe and other marine field locations.
