Employment Opportunity: Science Lab Assistant

Reports to: Lab Technician/Department Chair
Job Summary:
-To assist the Lab Technician in the daily function and operation of laboratories in the Science department.
Summary of essential job functions:
-Responsible for aiding in preparation and setup of daily laboratory exercises performed in various laboratories of the Science Department.
-Responsible for safely supervising the use of equipment/chemicals during lab sessions when assigned.
-Assisting lab lecturers during the lab session for a minimum of one hour.
-Responsible for clearing/cleaning of glassware and equipment after lab sessions.
-Assist in any research activity or projects where lab personnel are needed; especially with work conducted in the laboratories.
-Assist in performing inventory listing of equipment, chemicals, and glassware.
-Assist lecturers from the Science Department in field trips if required.
-Be able to handle safe disposal of toxic and/or bio hazardous material.
Minimum requirements:
-The lab assistant must hold a minimum of an Associate Degree in Biology and Chemistry.
- Have a good background in lab methodology, safety procedures, including safe preparation and handling of organic and inorganic chemicals.
-Be able to be familiar with laboratory equipment and its safe and proper use.
-Training in laboratory actualization would be an asset.
Abilities required
-Must be able to withstand at least 8 hours a day of constant physical movement.
-Must be able to carry/lift at least 30 pounds.

Summary of Responsibilities: The Director, Physical Plant, Project and Facilities is a critical role in the management of the University of Belize. This person is charged with developing and supervising the execution of systems that will maintain/refurbishing all physical structures on the University’s four locations and the Field Station at Calabash Caye. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of all facilities and development of a customer oriented department that creates policies and procedures that cover all aspects for the Physical Plant, Projects and Facilities Department.
Qualification: seeking candidate with a minimum of a Bachelor or Higher National Diploma(HND) with five years or more experience in Projects Supervision, including construction.
Five years or more supervision of development and maintenance of facilities.
